What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is simply a very comfortable and particularly relaxed state. There is no form of unconsciousness and you can not be made to do anything that you don't want to do. In fact, a person in hypnosis often feels a heightened sense of awareness. They are aware of everything that is happening around them, aware of themselves and their therapist, and will certainly not "lose control".
Hypnotherapy is a reliable and safe therapeutic technique used for fast and beneficial change. While a person is in this more relaxed state they find that they can focus far more on their desired aim and are able to accept beneficial suggestions of change more readily, hence the therapy part of hypnotherapy.
Is there any cause for concern?
No. Hypnosis is a proven therapeutic tool used safely many thousands of times daily throughout the world.
Could I get "stuck" in hypnosis?
Absolutely not. You can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time you wish, although it has been known for clients to be so relaxed that they have fallen momentarily asleep!
Will I be unconscious and not know what is going on?
See the answer to the first question above.
Will I "lose control" and be made to do things I don't want to?
No, you will remain in control at all times. Remember that all the "volunteers" on T.V. and stage hypnotist shows know exactly what they are in for when they volunteer and what they are expected to do. They may do things that they normally wouldn't do - but that doesn't mean that they don't want to do them, or enjoy performing in front of an audience!
Will I blurt out all my secrets?
No. As you remain completely in control you will only tell me what you wish to.
What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
A person in a hypnotic state is unlikely to feel "hypnotised" as there is no such thing as a "hypnotised feeling", just pleasantly relaxed.
Are there any drugs involved?
There are no drugs involved. I will guide a client into hypnosis by my voice alone.
Does it always work?
No. Similar to all other forms of medicine and therapy sadly sometimes it does not work. However, hypnotherapy has brought help and relief to a great many people throughout the world.
How many sessions will I need?
Unlike other "talking therapies", which usually take many months or even years, modern hypnotherapy - a rapid therapy - usually produces lasting results in anything between 2 and 6 sessions depending upon your presenting problem. Sessions are always tailored to the individual client and are normally one per week.
